COP requirements

The COP-Compliance.com Manual was developed to help organizations understand COP requirements and assess their level of compliance with the CMS acute care Conditions of Participation (COP). The Manual is designed to increase the knowledge level of acute care organizations regarding the COP requirements and to provide a comprehensive set of compliance activities to assess and improve compliance.

CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) develops the Conditions of Participation - COPs and Conditions for Coverage - CfCs. Health care organizations must meet these conditions in order to participate in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. These standards are intended to improve quality and protect the health and safety of beneficiaries. CMS also administers the deemed status program, which provides an alternative compliance process. CMS ensures that the standards of recognized accrediting organizations e.g., JCAHO, meet or exceed Medicare standards.
